Shao Mai is a popular and traditional food in western areas of Inner Mongolia. It is mainly made of mince mutton, green Chinese onion and fresh ginger, with wrapper of wheat flour. After being steamed, it looks like a flower and is very delicious. It is often eaten with vinegar, chili or garlic, which is similar to the eating tradition of Jiao Zi. Nowadays, there are minced pork, minced vegetables, and minced beef as varied to make Shao Mai.
