Xilituzhao Lamasery, named after Dalai Lama IV’s  teacher, Xilitu Buddha, who was once lived in it and preside over the religious activities. It was built during the Qianlong and Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1567-1619). It is located in the Shitou Lane, Yuquan District, close to the Dazhao Lamasery. The word Xilitu means “the seat of honor” or “Dharma seat” in the Tibetan language. Xilitu Lamasery is a group of buildings characterized by the combination of the architectural style of the Han and Tibetan people.  The red door with colorful patterns and the brick wall inlaid with glazed tiles form a brilliant contrast with a huge Dharma wheel, lucky deer, flying dragon and other gold ornaments which are all set in the front side of the roof and make the hall more magnificent and beautiful. On the stele in the hall the achievements made by the Emptor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty in putting down Gerdan’s Rebellion are inscribed with the writing of Han, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan people. It is the largest lamasery in Hohhot, covering 5000 square meters.  In the south-east part of the Lamasery there is a Buddha tower which is made of white marble and 15 meters high. This is the largest lama tower in Inner Mongolia.
