Robe, the traditional costume of the Mongolian people, dates back to the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, which can function as knee pads in cold and quilt at night. Chinese and foreign travelers have given accounts of the robes’ style and cloth. The robes’ thickness differs from season to season. The robes for men and women are different too: men’s robes are usually brown and blue, while women’s robes are usually red, pink, green and blue, tighter than men’s. Moreover, women’s robes are often matched with headdress of agates, pearls, corals, precious stones, gold and silver in ceremonial cases.
