The opening ceremony of the 13th WUTC was completed successfully on the afternoon of June 7, presenting a remarkable image of vast grassland, blue sky, melodious music, elegant dances, ethnic culture, sportsmanship, and China’s dream.
The ceremony started at 16:30 with “Grassland Overture”.
The honorable guests present at the ceremony are Mr. Wu Tuanying, Deputy Director-General of People’s Congress of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Mr. Liu Xinle, Vice Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government, Mr. Bai Xiangqun, Vice Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government, Mr. Yang Chengwang, Vice President of People’s Political Consultative Conference of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Mr. Hassan Chikh, FISU Assessor, Mr. Li Qiang, President of the Organizing Committee of the 13th World University Taekwondo Championship, Director-general of Boxing and Taekwondo Center of General Administration of Sports of China and President of Chinese Taekwondo Association, Mr. Xue Yanqing, Vice President of the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Hou Yuan, President of the Organizing Committee of the 13th World University Taekwondo Championship and Director-general of Department of Education of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Mr. Wang Hengjun, Deputy Mayor of Hohhot Municipal Government.
Tan Jingfeng, the OC President as the host, the flag ceremony began and all the participants present rose for the dignity of the national flag of People’s Republic China.
30 participating delegations entered the venue accompanied by ritual girls in red Mongolian dress and five exaggerated mascots, which symbolized the deep and long-lasting friendship of the five continents. The passionate cheering squad greeted the honorable spectators with smile and hospitality.
Mr. Xue Yanqing and Mr. Hassan Chikh delivered welcome messages, emphasizing the significance of the 13th WUTC in Taekwondo’s history and hoped all participants have a good performance and enjoyable days in Hohhot.
A most exciting moment came: Liu Xinle, OC Honorary President and Vice Governor of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government declared the opening of the championship. The FISU’s flag was hoisted with the FISU’s anthem, and the athlete and referee promised their commitment to a glorious competition.
A blessing message preluded the art performance following the flag ceremony.Beautiful songs and dances of local style and ethnic characteristics took on to the audience. A song named “My Hometown”, a horse-head fiddle unison named “Ten-thousand Galloping Horses”, an Mongolian dance named “Women on Horseback”, a ballroom dance named “Vigorous Youth” and a dance named “Toast Song on Grassland”, and an original work “song of greenness” by four university students were among the excellent performances.
Finally, all the performers gathered at the center of the stage and warmly welcomed the international friends, and then the whole scene turned to a sea of joy.
The great success of the opening ceremony turned out to be satisfactory and inspiring. The organizing of the championship embodies the local people’s beautiful dream and best wishes for prosperity of China and peace of the world.
